3 Ways to Add Flavour to Yogurt

I really love yogurt; my family would eat it daily when I was growing up. From the little pots of fruit yogurt to huge tubs of Greek yogurt, the good stuff was always in stock at my house. As an adult, I still eat it regularly, but sometimes I get sick of plain yogurt and find it too… well, plain. I’ve found that being creative with mix-ins and toppings helps me push past those feelings, and I’m happy to say that I can add some flair to my yogurt without turning it into unhealthy goop! Here are 3 of my favourite ways to add some more flavour to yogurt, they’ve been tested and approved by me, my family, and my partner!

Nuts and Seeds

One way I add even more protein and texture to my yogurt is by mixing nuts and seeds into it! I like adding chia seeds, flax seed, pepitas, pecans, pistachios, or cashews depending on the flavour. On days I do this, I notice I feel full for longer, but if you’re counting calories make sure not to go overboard with the nuts you add in!

Peanut Butter (or Nutella)

I like heating up a nut butter in the microwave and then drizzling it over my yogurt for some extra sweetness. I try not to do this too often, especially not with Nutella, but it’s a nice treat to have on days when I feel like I need an extra boost. My boyfriend really enjoys having Nutella swirled into his yogurt, he says it makes him feel like he’s eating something extra decadent.

Dates

I love chopping up some dates and cooking them down into a puree that I can mix into my yogurt anytime. This is even better if you add dates to a rhubarb compote, since the tartness of the rhubarb contrasts so nicely with the richness of the dates.
