I’m currently headed into my seven year mark with being married to Del. I have heard many things about the Seven Year Itch, but I haven’t been married long enough to feel it. I can say that I don’t see Del and I having to worry about that itch at all due to our history together. When I was given the chance to review A Lifelong Love: What If Marriage Is about More Than Just Staying Together? by Gary Thomas I jumped at it because I do worry about maintaining our loving relationship until the day we die.
We all know that marriages are falling apart all around us. One of the things I enjoyed about the book A Lifelong Love: What If Marriage Is about More Than Just Staying Together? is the fact that it gives couples more reasons than just love to continue to work on their marriage. It gives a set of Biblical points of view to take into account when it comes to matters of our marriage. Thomas does a good job of using Bible verses to back up his arguments.
At the end of each chapter Thomas gives couples a set of thought provoking questions to answer concerning their marriage. He also provides a prayer for the couples to pray together. These questions are good for opening up lines of communication in couples who don’t normally have it. If you have solid communication already, it’s good for having more in depth conversations about your marriage.
My Review
I do feel this book is for someone who completely believes in God. If you don’t believe in him then you aren’t going to enjoy this book at all. Even for me, I felt it was overly preachy.
