Ivory Tower Movie Review

As someone who is deep in student loan debt, the movie Ivory Tower really struck a cord with me. I personally went through University of SC in Aiken and also Devry University Online. Ivory Tower points out how in our economy today, people are deep in debt with college debt, but yet don’t have the jobs to back up that college degree. I know I’m one of those people.

I have always felt like I was in middle of a rock and a hard place. I have my associate’s degree in accounting, but when I’ve gone to apply for jobs using that degree I was informed that I needed a bachelor’s degree. Then when I apply for other jobs I get told I’m over qualified due to my degree and prior management experience. I literally felt (and still feel) like I can’t win for losing.

In Ivory Tower, they stress that many college students aren’t learning anything really in college except for how to drink and party. I hate to say this, but I think that’s the case in many public high schools already. Shoot, even in the elementary schools my kids weren’t learning anything. Our world’s education has taken a MAJOR downhill spiral.

I fear for my future if we can’t figure out a way to get out from underneath these debt from the student loans we’ve racked up. I fear for my kids futures. I wonder if I’ll ever get out of this debt we’re in. I can’t even afford to finish getting my bachelor’s degree that I need/want.

It’s like a vicious cycle that is never ending. Ivory Towerclearly points that situation out a lot too. I felt it was a compelling documentary and it’s filled with a lot of clear facts. I think they are more on target than the government may want to admit.
