Staying Alive: A Love Story Book Review

I was given this book to review in exchange for an honest blog review.

Staying Alive: A Love Story is a book about how a woman learns to live after her husband passes away at a young age. There are some who have reviewed this book and took a lot from it. I feel for the author and have no idea how in the world I’d be able to deal with every losing Del.

I tried numerous times to really get into reading it and enjoying it, but I couldn’t. Any time a book/movie goes all over the place with their timelines I can’t get into reading it. I wish that had not been the case for this book.

It also started out very boring. She was talking about mundane things in her life. I expect to see that on blog posts because those are more of a daily type of writing in which the author is sharing parts of themselves with you in an ongoing manner. However, when I’m reading a book, I just want the meat and potatoes. It would be different if that was actually leading up to something else, but I got almost halfway through the book and it wasn’t.

There are 12 reviews on Amazon for this book and out of all of them the majority of them really enjoyed it a lot. They felt the author did a remarkable job and they took so much from it. They felt it was an inspirational story. If I had already been through this situation, I may have actually gotten over my timeline issue and the mundane of the writing.

I think it’s one of those books where you have to have been in the authors shoes to fully appreciate it. I definitely have no room to be talking about the author’s writing style because I personally haven’t published my ebook for the same exact reason. I’m all over the place with my writing and it sounds boring to even me. I do believe that if there was order to this book that it would be more appealing to various types of readers.

Have you read it? What do you think of it?

    • I’m glad you understood what I was trying to say about this book. I felt kind of bad giving it a low review. However, I couldn’t really give it a high one either.

    • Nice to meet you Kita. I’m glad you stopped by from the Tribe. I’ll be making my rounds soon! I’m only an hour from Charleston and five minutes off of I-26.
What book did you read that was good?

  2. Hmm. It sounds like it could be good but I am with you…if it is all over the place that would be hard to follow.
