My wife got the new Wizard of Oz movie to watch with our kids not too long ago. Then it dawned on her the kids had never seen the original Wizard of Oz. She felt like that was a total disgrace. We immediately added it to our Netflix DVD list.
It led to us talking about the movies we grew up watching that were our parents’ family favorites. My mother-in-law loved the Wizard of Oz, and her favorite character was Tin Man. We used to get her Wizard of Oz gifts all the time.
Wizard of Oz is such a classic movie because it teaches kids and some parents about how important it is to love ourselves for who we are. I don’t think we have many movies that really teach this concept in such a wholesome way anymore.
