This is a chapter book that is great for 3-8th graders. It is a heartwarming story about a girl who has a wonderful heart and her friend/neighbor/adopted grandfather and her summer project.
This touched my heart in many ways. Mainly because of the history I have with cancer. However, it also reminded me the value of being able to give back to a person’s community when your able. This man came up with a wonderful project for him and Shelby to do over the summer.
It was a great bonding experience for both of them. It also made the lives of other’s richer as well. It’s a wonderful book for any kid to read.
Unfortunately, in today’s society many kids are taught to only do things when there is something in it for them. I’ve noticed that even I fall into this category of teaching my kids that nasty trait. This book helped remind me that I need to fix that issue while I still can. It is well worth using as a means of teaching kids the value of “paying it forward.”
Disclosure: I did receive this book for review in hopes that I would create a blog post about it in exchange. In no way, did that help shape my opinion of this book.
