I have to say that this weeks movies left me quite disappointed for the most part for this movie review blog post. However, we did get one movie that is well worth mentioning. We didn’t get to watch the kid movie we got to rent. Jimmy and Zeva are watching it right now.
So without further ado…
The Host was the movie I couldn’t wait to watch. I honestly thought it was going to scary or creepy so I was prepared to watch it first. (I have major nightmares over movies that are filled with scary or skin crawling scenes.) I was very disappointed to not see anything more dramatic in this movie. It was about aliens coming and taking over the bodies of humans. The main character of the movie is a woman who is fighting to have her body back despite the alien being in her body. The alien ends up leaving it’s own kind (in her human body form) and meeting the “host’s” family.
As a result the alien learns that not all humans are mean and selfish. She also gets emotionally attached to one of the guys in the family. This movie turned into a majorly twisted romance story. I won’t say it was darn right terrible because it truly wasn’t. It just wasn’t what I was expecting to see when I started to watch it.
I attempted to watch Dead Man Down because I thought it would be a good action packed movie. I couldn’t get into it. I will most likely go back and give it another try later on because the previews do make it look like a good movie. However, the scenes are dark and since we were trying to watch it during the hot of the day that made it hard to enjoy it or even follow along completely.
Then we popped in Redline to watch. Redline was a pretty decent movie. It is about a man who decides to bomb a subway train. He ends up being one of the surviving ones. The ones who are left alive have to figure out how to save themselves. It’s not overly action packed and there are a lot of slow periods throughout the movie. However, it is a decent movie.
FINALLY… The MOVIE OF THE WEEK!
The Call is a bone chilling suspenseful action packed movie from start to finish. We were literally on the edge of our seats many times throughout the movie. We were ranting and cheering for the hostage all throughout the movie. We could feel her various emotions all through the course of the movie. The effects in the movie were amazing. We literally felt like we were wrapped up in all of commotion. It was down right remarkable movie!!!
Maybe it was remarkable so much to me because of living through my mom being beat up and having to fend for our lives in 1992. Maybe I could relate to how the main character felt. However, I also feel like if it were my kids that were held hostage like that, I’d do everything the operator did and then some.
My son and daughter are currently watching Ivan the Incredible. She is actually curled up in Jimmy’s arms watching it peacefully except for a few laughs escaping her mouth. He is intent on the movie and laughing a good bit too. It sounds like it’s a cute movie. So, I believe it’s safe to say it’s one worth getting for the kids. (If it wasn’t good, Zeva would be getting into everything she could get her hands on.)
What movie do you recommend? Did you enjoy any of the above movies?
